General
Hurja Piruetti - Dance Institute of Länsi-Uusimaa is a Dance school responsible for arranging wide Basic Education in Arts in Dance. It also has another major purpose - to conduct, produce and give performances.
The work of Hurja Piruetti is made possible by the Support Association. Anyone can become a member of the Support Association. For more information, please contact the teachers.
In Raasepori, Hurja Piruetti offers the children, teenagers and adults the possibility to engage in dance just for fun or, if they so will, also study dance in professional guidance. The objectives and core contents are determined in national core curricula devised by the National Board of Education (38/11/2002).
Dance education is arranged for children and young people all the way until their adulthood. The operations include dance classes, various projects and intensive courses as well as performances/recitals at least once a year.
In 2023-2024 Hurja Piruetti is offering the following classes: Children's Dance, Contemporary and Jazz Dance, Ballet, Acrobatic, Cirkus, Hip hop, Dancehall Reggae, Commercial dance, Danceclasses for adults, Dance classes over 60+, Body Maintenance/Stretching classes as well as Repertoire classes for advanced students. In addition to that, we organise intensive courses and workshops throughout the year.
Mrs Katja Köngäs acts as the coordinator and headmaster of the school, and is responsible for performances and teaching. Chairman of the Board is Mrs Riitta Vallin.
Hurja Piruetti is actively participating in cultural education in Raasepori by giving performances in the schools in the area, as well as participating in local events. The institute is also a member of daCi ry (Dance and the Child - registered association) as well as the Association of Dance Institutes in Finland.

Otherwise, the registration becomes binding, and the course will be fully invoiced.
Other cancellations must be made no later than August 1 for the autumn term and December 1 for the spring term. In such cases, the billing obligation ends upon receipt of the written cancellation. All cancellations must be sent in writing to
Absences do not entitle the participant to a fee reduction. For long-term absences due to serious reasons, special payment arrangements may be made, starting from the date of written contact with the principal (
Absences can be made up during the same term (autumn or spring) by attending another class of the same or shorter duration and level, if space is available. Hurja Piruetti reserves the right to cancel one class per term, which may then be compensated with another class of equal or shorter duration and level, if space is available.
Photographs
Hurja Piruetti needs photographs for example for communication and marketing purposes (brochures, posters etc), articles or interenet publications. Sometimes also the media asks for material to support their articles. The Personal Data Act requires a permission from the persons to be photographed. The legal guardians give the permission on behalf of the minor. We comply with the legislation in force as well as ethically approved principles and require the media to do so as well. If you do not want your child to be photographed or the photographs to be used for purposes mentioned above, please email
Frequently asked questions
I have never danced before, how do I know which classes I should take?
Each dance teacher has their own style and way of teaching. For beginners we recommend classes marked with “beginners” or “open level”. Don’t be afraid to try out different groups and dance styles, that is how you will find the ones that suit you the best! Our teachers are also happy to help, so go have a chat with them after the class.
I have been absent from the class I’m registered for, and I would like to compensate for that by taking another class. Should I book my place beforehand?
When compensating for a missed class, you do not need to book your place beforehand. You may choose whichever class you’d like, provided that the group is not full. You should speak with the teacher about whether there is space in the class for you, and let them know the date of the class you are compensating for. Classes can be compensated during the current term; for example, autumn term’s absences can only be compensated during the autumn term.
I want to switch groups, should I re-register through the registrationsite?
That will not be necessary. You can inform of the change of groups simply by contacting
My child is an eager dancer at home, and we would like to try out a dance class. However, since we do not know whether they will want to take up the hobby, we would not want to pay for the whole term fee. How should we proceed?
We recommend first trying out the class before booking a place in the group. Unfortunately, we are not able to guarantee a place for your child if the group is full, or someone else has registered before you through the online booking system. A confirmation for a place in the group or on the waiting list, or a notification that the group is full booked will be delivered immediately after the registration to the email address provided.
I used to dance before for a couple of years, and would like to take up dancing again. How do I know which group is suitable for me?
We recommend picking out the classes you are interested in and trying them out, or alternatively, contacting
How do I join a Special Education group?
SE-groups are discretionary. The groups train together actively, and commit to a long-term and intense training. New SE-groups are formed and the old ones recruit new members when needed. Keep an eye on our website and Facebook page for updates.
Both me and my child take classes at Hurja Piruetti, and unfortunately, I am not able to pay the term fees in one go. Is it possible to split the amount into instalments?
It is possible to split the term fee into 2-4 instalments. Contact our office as soon as possible at
I would like to use the choreographies from the classes in my school performance. Is that allowed?
The teacher holds the copyright to their own work, and you should always ask the choreographer (the teacher) for permission to use a choreography or an extract of it. If permission is granted, the name of the choreographer should be mentioned in the event (for example, in the programme note). The same copyright applies to pictures and videos taken during the classes. You should ask the choreographer for permission to publish extracts of their work, and if permission is granted, always remember to mention their name.
